New research reports released highlighting the contribution of EU research and innovation to Europe’s water resilience
To support evidence-based policymaking, the European Commission has published three new reports from the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. These analyses examine how EU funded research contributes to the core objectives of the EU’s Water Resilience Strategy and will inform the development of the forthcoming Water Resilience Research and Innovation Strategy.
More than 200 projects analysed
- Report 1 reviews 76 projects and identifies concrete innovation results related to aquatic ecosystems, extreme events, agriculture, and urban water management. (edited by Playan, Enrique)
- Report 2 analyses 89 projects and highlights replicable and scalable solutions, including digital tools, circular bioeconomy models, and nature-based approaches. This report "Water Resilient Europe", analyses the contribution of Horizon 2020 & Horizon Europe projects to the European Water Resilience Strategy. (edited by Prof. Francesco Fatone)
- Report 3 assesses 57 projects and synthesises outputs that can support effective implementation of the Strategy, covering improved water governance, global water management, monitoring, water efficiency, urban solutions, safe drinking water, sanitation, and action on harmful chemicals. (edited by Darmendrail Dominique)
Together, these reports provide a solid foundation for shaping the research and innovation agenda needed to achieve Europe’s water resilience by 2050.
